Japanese press condemns the scheme calmly but unanimously. Principle, if accepted, they say, ought also to apply to English, French, and German lines throughout China proper. Japanese cannot surrender South Manchurian Railway, won by much sacrifice and secured by treaty, and United States themselves in 1908 recognised status quo in that region.
